πΏ BRAZILIAN GRAPETREE / JABUTICABA (Plinia cauliflora)
π° Price: Package of 2 seeds
πΏ Jabuticaba, also known as Brazilian Grapetree, Jaboticaba, Jabotica, Jabuticabeira, Guaperu, Guapuru, Hivapuru, SabarΓ‘, and Yvapuru, is a subtropical evergreen tree native to southeastern Brazil, particularly the states of Minas Gerais and SΓ£o Paulo. The tree produces cauliflorous fruits β small, thick-skinned berries that grow directly on the trunk. The fruits measure 3β4 cm in diameter and feature a thick, purple, astringent skin encasing sweet, white or rosy pink gelatinous flesh. Seeds are embedded within the flesh, typically one to four per fruit.
The tree grows slowly but can live for decades. Young leaves are salmon-colored, turning green as they mature. It thrives in moist, rich, slightly acidic soils but is adaptable to various soil types, including alkaline sandy soils, as long as irrigation and care are provided. While the uncultivated tree may flower and fruit once or twice a year, continuous irrigation promotes frequent flowering, and tropical climates may produce fresh fruit year-round.
