🌸 Manchurian Apricot Seeds (Prunus armeniaca var. mandshurica)

πŸ’° Price: Package of 10 seeds

✨ The Manchurian Apricot is a small, fast-growing tree native to Manchuria and Korea. It features a rounded, spreading form, white spring flowers, golden-orange autumn foliage, and edible peach-like fruit, best suited for preserves. Early flowering can make fruits vulnerable to spring frost.

  • Size & Growth: Reaches 3–4.5 m (10–15 ft) in height with a canopy spread of 3.5–5.5 m (12–18 ft). Bark is reddish-brown to cinnamon. Medium root system. Leaves are glossy, simple, broad-ovate to elliptic, with sharply double-serrate margins and light green coloration, turning yellow to orange in fall.

  • Flowers & Fruit: Solitary flowers ~2.5 cm (1”) in diameter, ranging from almost white to pink. Fruits are subglobose, yellow, sometimes with a red blush.

  • Environmental Needs: Prefers loamy soil, pH 6.0–7.5, full sun exposure, moderately drought-tolerant. USDA Zone 3 hardy. Avoid waterlogged conditions.

  • Uses:

    • Conservation/Windbreaks: Ideal small tree for farmstead windbreaks

    • Wildlife: Provides nesting for songbirds; rabbits and rodents may cause winter damage

    • Agroforestry & Products: Fruits for fresh, processed, and dried consumption. Source of phloretin for cosmetics, soaps, and medicinal uses. Related Prunus species have been used for cough, cold, gout, and cancer research.

    • Urban/Recreational: Can be used as a specimen or screen tree; fruits may be undesirable in boulevard plantings
