🌺 Giant Roselle Seeds (Hibiscus sabdariffa)

πŸ’° Price: Package of 5 seeds

🌳 Hibiscus sabdariffa, known as Roselle, is a tropical plant from the Malvaceae family, valued for its edible red calyx fruits and bast fibers for textiles. The giant variety produces fruits twice as large as standard Roselle.

πŸƒ Botanical Description:
Roselle is an annual or perennial herb or woody-based subshrub, growing 2–2.5 m tall. Leaves are deeply 3–5 lobed, 8–15 cm long, and alternately arranged. Flowers are 8–10 cm in diameter, white to pale yellow with a dark red spot at the base of each petal. The stout, fleshy calyx enlarges and turns bright red as the fruit matures. Maturity takes about 6 months.

🌏 Distribution & Habitat:
Native to the Old World tropics, Roselle is now cultivated worldwide, especially in China, Thailand, Sudan, Mexico, and West Africa. Prefers full sun and well-drained soil.

πŸ¦‹ Uses:

  • Food & Beverages: Red calyces are used for tea, juices, sorrel drinks, jams, and desserts.

  • Vegetable: Young leaves can be cooked like spinach, e.g., in Gongura Pachadi (India) or Burmese dishes.

  • Medicinal: Traditionally used for cardiovascular support, as a mild diuretic, and to aid digestion.

  • Textiles: Stems provide fibers similar to jute for ropes and fabrics.

🌸 Special Features:

  • Extra-large fruits, twice the size of regular Roselle

  • High in vitamin C and anthocyanins

  • Popular for homemade drinks, teas, and health remedies

  • Can be used in jams, syrups, and cocktails

🌱 Cultivation Tips:

  • Sow seeds in spring in well-drained soil

  • Keep soil moist, avoid waterlogging

  • Light requirement: full sun to partial shade

  • Maturity: ~6 months, harvest when calyces are bright red

  • Suitable for tropical and subtropical climates
