Field peas are comparable to green peas, which means that only the seeds are consumable. Best is to consume the peas when they are fresh; freezing is perfectly fine as well (Blanche shortly before freezing). It is also possible to let the crop ripen longer so you can use the dried seeds as well.
Climbing types have to be cultivated along a wire netting in any case. In this process, it is possible to sow a series on both sides of the net. It is also important to sow sufficiently deep (3-4 cm) in order to prevent mice and birds from eating the seeds. There are little problems with diseases and plagues, which makes it all the much more attractive to cultivate this crop yourself.
